It’s actually embarrassing that it took me so long to make these Oatmeal Chocolate Covered Raisin Cookies considering I debate with myself more times than you can imagine whether I should make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies or oatmeal raisin cookies. Oatmeal is another pantry staple because I’m 95 years old and have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast 87.3% of the time (totally accurate) so these oatmeal cookies were a long time coming.

You can pretty much cover anything in chocolate and I’ll love it (well, within reason–Fear Factor, I’m looking at you) so chocolate covered raisins are a pantry (and midnight snack) staple. They have the ability to raise the spirits of anyone experiencing a bout of pet peeve moments. These chocolate covered raisin oatmeal cookies, on the other hand, are the best.Ī real delight, if you will. You see, not only do I find this gross, lazy, and lacking in common courtesy, without fail, if there is gum somewhere in the near vicinity, I will unintentionally find it and step on it. Why is it that some people feel the need to spit their chewed up wad of gum onto the ground instead of, oh, I don’t know, placing it a nearby trashcan? Or even placing it back in the wrapper until a trashcan can be found? (Aren’t you glad you waited for that? Not anti-climatic at all…) Well, today, I’m going to share with you one of my current pet peeves (lucky you! □). It wasn’t until that exact moment that I realized just how much you can learn about someone by a pet peeve (and vice versa…a whole lot of strangers learned about my irritation with drivers who refuse to use their blinker). I remember back in college a professor asking each of us to introduce ourself by sharing our biggest pet peeve. I am obsessed with all things oatmeal raisin cookies (and chocolate covered raisins) so these oatmeal chocolate covered raisin cookies were a no brainer! The best of both worlds! I’ll continue on my quest to recreate the “everything but the kitchen sink mega cookie.” Meanwhile, here goes a pretty good sidekick. These oatmeal chocolate covered raisin cookies are a cross between the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and homemade oatmeal raisin cookies! If you are a fan of both oatmeal cookie recipes, you are sure to love this spin on a classic cookie recipe! The opposite could work for those who aren’t chocoholics. While those are baking, add in a cup of raisins to the remainder of the cookie dough to make the full, chocolate chip/raisin combination. To protect those who aren’t too fond of raisins, this recipe can be made so that it results in two different cookies.Īdd in only the chocolate chips, and then use only half of this cookie dough to bake cookies. It is packed full of raisins and chocolate chips for those of us who crave the additions over the cookie itself. It’s still a winner, especially for events involving a mix of kids and adults–it’s just a notch fancier than the plain old chocolate chip cookie. Not an earth shattering cookie, nor a mega cookie, nor a new cookie invention. I’ve gotten this far though: the oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookie.

Here I am, many years later, and still continuing on my quest. I don’t know who made it or what it contained exactly, but I knew that it must have had a whole heck of a lot packed in it, and I made it my life-long quest to figure it out. It was not only about four inches across and 1/2 an inch thick–it was still soft and chewy (sorry, fans of the cakey cookie). One “everything but the kitchen sink” mega cookie appeared only a handful of times a year. Even for ice cream sundae day, they had mounds of my favorite candy bar of all time–Goldenberg Peanut Chews–as a topping choice along with true blue hot fudge and a whole host of other unhealthy but tasty goodies. The cafeteria at my college dorm had a killer dessert counter.
